Childhood trauma is a deeply personal experience that can have long-lasting effects on an individual's mental and emotional well-being. For many, the journey to healing and overcoming such trauma can be a challenging one. However, it is a journey that is worth embarking on, as breaking the silence and seeking help can lead to profound healing and growth.

After 10 years of silence, I have found the drive and courage to share my journey of overcoming childhood trauma, the lasting effects it had on me, and my story. The purpose of this blog is to share my personal experiences of childhood abuse, and by breaking the silence and opening up about my struggles, I hope to not only find healing for myself, but also to connect with others who may be going through similar experiences. No one deserves to go through something so life-altering alone, and I know the feeling of that all too well.

I would also like to take a second to highlight the importance of seeking help and support when dealing with childhood trauma. Whether it be through therapy, support groups, or self-care practices, finding healthy coping mechanisms is essential in the healing process. By sharing my story, I hope to encourage others to seek the help they need and break free from the cycle of silence and shame.

At 28 years old, 6 therapists, 2 psychiatrists, and 3 medications later, I am still not fully healed from what happened to me those 8 long, nightmarish years. However, I know that in speaking about it, and owning my trauma, I am moving further in the right direction to put the past behind me and make something beautiful out of it. In doing all of this, my main goal is to preserve my brother's memory as well as create a safe space for those who have gone through similar traumas and want to connect or share their story. Somewhere they can go to know that what happened to them was not their fault, that they are safe now, and that there are brighter days ahead.

This is for you, Johnny.

Thank you for your support.

xoxo

Ashley
